Sri
Lanka : a place where you
can find the most pure smile in the world...!
At first, I was attracted by its
name, sounds beautiful and mystical. I
still remember the first time I saw Nishadi by Skype, actually, I’m a little
bit nervous, through my phone screen, I could see her beautiful eyes and big
smile… that make me feel better… I believe that girls who like smile always
have good luck and kindness heart, I can feel it by talking with my TNM. That’s
my first impression of Sri Lanka people.
Students
in Kurunegalla
In china, there’s an old
saying that your eyes are the window of your heart. And I was deeply shocked by
my students’ eyes…. Long and luxurious eyelash, even if they don’t understand
Chinese, I could still read their feeling and words from their big eyes…
My first day at school, I
cross my arms and hold my nose to pretend an animal, at the same time, all the
kids shout loudly “elephant!” , and then
I found they know many kinds of animals… I play like a rabbit, snake, tiger, peacock…
they can recognize them all… little moneys would like to do the same gesture
like me. And they did great job! I felt regret that I should bring more candies
and stickers from China… Kids are easy to satisfied, what they want is only a
Star Cup or a flower sticker… the smile on their face can never disappear in my
heart.
One of my favorite student
is Ashen. He is my little prince… he is so shy and small.. I guess he is a
student of grade 1. He try his best to follow me. I could tell that from his
expression. When I asked is there someone want to answer this question. He
always look like me like a little deer… I could tell that he want to give it a
try. And I will give him my thumb and invite him come closer to me and try. If
he forgot how to speak the English words, he would clap his little head
tenderly, that makes my heart melting… so cute!!! That’s the different between
village children and city children. Usually, kids who grow up in village can
bring you more feelings… they are unique because they stay with nature. Our
nature influence their characters, which makes them more innocent and kindness
than others.
Kasuni is a smart girl, she
is a grade 4 student, so usually she can understand what I am teaching. Every
time when I try to teach kids play a new game, she always be the first one to
understand the rules and cooperate with me actively. She is a A+ students in my
class.
In the final day of my
teaching, I couldn’t help crying… I know that in the bottom of my heart, I have
already made a profound relationship with them… I appreciate the school and
parents. They provided all kinds of delicious local traditional foods for us
every teaching day. They warmly welcome us… in the final days, some students
hold my hands tightly and looking like me with love… A girl give me a kind of
local fruits, and hold me tightly… I couldn’t say everything but tears down… I
know they also miss me so much. Sundeli and her friends come close to me and
said: Grace, don’t go back to China… I don’t know what I should answer to them
… they are my little angels … I smile with tears and hug them one by one… that
is the only thing I could do. I love them. I love my little angels and prince….
Friends
in CN
Nishadi is my TNM, she took
me around Ragama and introduce King Coconut to me. It is the first time I drink
King Coconut, tasty! She is so kindness, I remembered that me, Moira have to
move to another ep house. She arrange a tuk-tuk for us. But with two big sizes
luggage, the tuk-tuk became very crowded… Finally, she carried my luggage by
herself on the way to another ep house. I felt so warm…. My mother told me that
you should treat others like the way that you want to be treated. And Nishadi
did that… Later, I was invited to her house, and that is my first time to visit
a Sri Lanka people house. Nishadi‘s mother is so elegant and her brother is so
gentle… they treated us with best Sri Lanka tea and pancakes. We played the
piano, violin, and badminton in that afternoon. That’s really an enjoyable day!
I love this kindness family!!!
Nilushi is a lovely girl I met
in Sri Lanka, she helped us a lot before we come to S.R. we sent a lots of
messages by wechat. She is also very helpful! When I want to know the railway
information, she helped me a lot… That’s the way which Sri Lanka people give it
to you. They have the most pure heart in the world.
Nishan is our buddy in our
project. He always asking us “ Do you like it ? “ One the first day, he told me that I should
believe him because he is an AIESECer. He will try his best to arrange teaching
plan and trips for us. I was deeply moved by his words. And in the rest days,
he did that. He invited us to his village and treat us as his families. His
grandma was so mercy and hospitable. She make fry rice with curry, noodles,
chicken, vegetable salads, ice cream….. so many different kinds of foods to
welcome us. She stand in a corner, with smile on her face and looking at us…
like my own grandma… that meal was the best meal I have in Sri Lanka.
Kaalinga is also an AIESECer. The first time I saw him, he wear a blue T-shirts. He and Rasika came
to our ep house to help us. Rasika is a very funny guy. He sang a lots of Sri
Lanka songs and beats the desk as a drum. Kaalinga told me some stories about
Lord Buddha and he said that this place is far away from Colombo, but they
think kids who lived in here needs more help. They also deserve a chance to
know the world and accept better education. I was deeply moved by their words…
I suddenly realize that what I had done has is a meaningful things. Some of the
students might change their life because of us. It is my honor to be here teach
their English and spread Chinese culture. They will learn that in the world,
there is a country that is totally different with Sri Lanka, they have
different appearance and living hobbits. They are easily to communicate and get
along with. They learn that the world is so big, and they have the chance to
look around. They can love their local people and also love others who don’t
come from the same countries. And that is what I learned from this wonderful
journey…
We visited Kandy with
Nishan and Kaalinga for the perahera on 20th, and they are so nice and
considerate. On the way, they took us to buy some tea with discount. And
because of him, I have a better understand about their cultural. Like different
color elephants has different meanings…
English is not my mother tongue…so
I cannot express my appreciation exactly… I would love to tell you more stories
about this traveling…
Unforgettable,Amazing,
Wonderful……
Best part in my life until
now….
At last, I want to say “ Mama
Sri Lankawata godak adarei “
If I have another chance, I
will visit this place again !
